The Slick Mount came about because of the abundance of this type of .049 engine available, and because setting these engines up in a small plane is a pain. I always had trouble with fuel feed consistency with a separate tank and then where do you put the tank in a small plane? Fuel and vent lines would always pop out at the wrong place too. The Slick Mount brings all the necessary elements together in one efficient very easy to use package which will include the mount with the fuel vents installed, silicone fuel line and clunk, and four socket head screws to mount the engine. We will provide a 35 mm film container for the tank. The engine is the type that generally comes on U-control airplanes. Cox® makes a high performance version of this engine available under the "Killer Bee"® name. I have purchased a number of these engines at swap meets and garage sales, sometimes with a broken plane, for $2.00 to $6.00 dollars.
The beauty of this setup is the ease of installation. After the power unit is assembled you will need to make a fire wall suitable for your particular aircraft out of 1/8-1/4 inch plywood. I then use a typical 1 1/4 inch spade drill to bore a hole where I want the engine. Slip the mount into the fire wall, mark and drill the four mounting holes located at each corner of the mount and screw it down. You may use wood screws or if you want to use T-nuts, just file off one edge of the T-nut flange to help clear the tank. What could be simpler? Small engines can be temperamental but this setup just eliminates some of the biggest problems small engines have with fuel delivery. Be sure to plug the top tube after filling as the low pressure area created by the engine can suck the fuel right out of the tank.
