P51 Combat powered foamie

This is the latest version of the P51. We felt it was necessary to revise the kit since many of you wanted to stick larger engines into it. So we changed a few things plus added the wing leading edge chines that identify a real Mustang. This one looks great in the air and the design changes greatly improved handling of the ship.

Note: we have a P51B version available also. It will build the same but the canopy is different of course.

We decided to leave the pictures of the previous version P51 and the building instructions for it,  incase you want to install our Slickmount with a Norvel 061 or Speed 400 Electric. Either one of which will fly even better with the current improvements. Each of the old instructions are very helpful and will give a little different angle to the construction process of our planes.

CONSTRUCTION SET FOR THE NEW VERSION: details the latest version with complete text and pictures for construction for P51 "D" and "B" version

CONVERTING TO SPEED 400 ELECTRIC: outlines installation of S400 electric in the  old version P51, but installation will be similar - note: very difficult to fly with 400 unless you make the plane very light or use a brushless motor..

Check out our COMBO deal for $140 that includes the most excellent Norvel .25 and necessary equipment

Note: kits now include spars and ready cut spar slots in the wings

BTW, the new Norvel .25 plain bearing or ball bearing engine has reportedly been very successful in combat circles. We try to keep both these engines in stock along with tanks mounts and radio systems. We recently put in stock a specially setup Hitec radio system that includes micro 555 receiver and HS 81 servos and a 350 mah battery pack that is just perfect for combat planes due to the light weight. Check them out from the Gas engine tab and the Electronics tab for the radio system

This is the new version done up in our new, light blue tape. White packing tape and black electricians tape make up the invasion strips computer generated insignias finish the look.
P51BSo, what do you think of the newest of our P51 stable? This plane is covered in our Dark Green tape then lightly sanded and sprayed with Krylon Hunter Green spray paint. It actually looks very close to the British Green that the first P51s were painted. The underside is sprayed with light gray and the yellow is painted on with enamel. I used computer generated graphics and 1/4 inch white automotive pinstripe. After all the painting and decorating is done, a cote of semi-gloss clear Polyurethane is sprayed over everything. That should help seal the paint from the fuel. This is a welcome departure from the usual P51 and it offers some very interesting and different paint schemes. This one is set up with a .15 OS LA Blue engine and standard servos on the control surfaces and FMA S80 for the throttle. Our flights have been incredible with excellent handling and speed. It weighs in at a little over 2 lbs and vertical performance is good with tight turns and loops.
